First step

FIRST WEEK: 11-15 September

We started the draft proposed by the teachers of the grade: Design and fabricate a die which can make a concrete metalic piece. To make the ``job´´ better our group has to work with the people who are studying the second year of CMM. They are going to help us in the fabrication of the die. 

The draft started learning the options of the software Catia, because is the tool to make a good design. The way to start learning the program is practising (Making a little pieces), so we started with that. 

After this we had been introduced in the world of the dies with the subjects of Gaizka and Asier: Types of dies, different factories in Durango which make their activity with dies... We also started with the sheet metal development study, so necessary to go on with the draft.

YAIZA GUERRA

We are student of mechanical design vocational course, so we are going to do that. Design different kind of tools and pieces. In this course they teachers, taking the customer role,  have given us a piece (the one of the image). We need to design and build a tool that is capable of creating this piece.  To accomplish this we are going to make the tool know as die.

This is going to be a very complicate and large job,  after all, the die is a very complicate tool . With a lot of parameters to take into account   and many different options to make the same tool. Is going to be a lot of work for one person , and in our future jobs we are going to work in team. So in the first week the class is separate in different groups, we are going to make all the design and different class work in this groups for the rest of the school year.

So the first week, after the teachers made the groups and introduce what is going to be the work for the rest of the year, we started looking for information. This is the first step to start the job. Understand what they ask us for and look for information to be able to do that. Fortunately, the teachers have uploaded all the necessary information in moodle (the online platform that we use to upload all the notes of the course). So we already have everything we need . So instead of looking for it, we just need to read it and order the information.

After understanding what they ask for and read the information they give us , we classify everything we have in this mind map ( a diagram used to visually organize information). After locating and ordering everything that they ask us and the parameters that we have to take into acconunt this is tha mind map we hace done.

This is the summary of our first week of class

After having basic information about dies, we continued practicing Catia with Julen, starting with another gadgets like patterns or auto constraint. We started calculatios for bents too, depending the form of the piece having a variation of a formule: F= T*b*e

F= Power

T= Breaking tension

b= Bent length

e= Thickness

for another type of calculations we have to take into account the stress strain diagram which shows the diferent behaviors of a material as we can see in the picture.

This week, I've started learning different catia gadgets, with gaizka I have learned calculations of folding and, with asier, I have learned different types of presses.
